Tobacco production in the U.S. has changed significantly since the elimination of the Federal Tobacco Program.  Like other farmers, tobacco growers are facing significant challenges such as rising costs of production and finding affordable farm labor.  CTGR is working to collect information about the value of tobacco production and identify challenging tobacco production issues.

The success of this project depends on the participation of current and former tobacco growers.  Nearly 8,600 people from fourteen different states have already signed up to participate in CTGR research projects.  We have collected valuable information about the changes occurring on tobacco farms and in rural communities through their cooperation in this effort.
